A 230-Year Lineage of Excellence
The Beginning
1950s
I. The Lancashire Foundation: The Workshop of the World
To understand Cavvalure, one must first understand the soil from which it grew. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Lancashire was not merely a county; it was the industrial engine of the British Empire. Known as the "Workshop of the World," its mills produced nearly half of the global cotton output.
This was an era defined by The Lancashire Principle: the belief that a garment’s value was found in its integrity. In the heart of Preston, this standard was set by John Horrocks, who founded the "Yard Works" in 1791. His mills established a global gold standard for cotton that eventually clothed the British Royal Family through the iconic Horrockses Fashions. This atmosphere of uncompromising quality—where every loom-shuttle and every hand-inspected seam mattered—is the historical bedrock of Cavvalure.
II. The Lancashire Revolution: A Vision of Scale
As the 20th century progressed, the global textile landscape shifted, but the spirit of innovation in Preston remained unbroken. In 1984, a new chapter of British manufacturing began with the founding of a specialist textile processing plant by the founders’ family.
While the traditional cotton era had passed, the family recognised a new frontier in textile engineering: Denim. By the mid-1980s, the family had transformed Preston into the UK’s denim capital. At its zenith, Centenary Mill—the architectural crown jewel of New Hall Lane—was producing up to 50% of the nation’s denim.

III. The Science of the "Frost Wash"
Innovation was the family’s currency. In 1987, the facility achieved a global breakthrough with "frost wash" technology. This required an intimate, scientific understanding of fibre manipulation—learning exactly how to treat heavy-duty fabrics so they remained resilient yet supple.
This era of denim mastery taught the family how to balance stretch and recovery—the two most critical factors in performance apparel. This technical "muscle memory" is what allows Cavvalure to create riding leggings that never sag and base layers that move like a second skin. We didn't learn about fabric in a studio; we learned it on the factory floor, managing the tension of a thousand threads at once.
In 1997, the heritage of Centenary Mill received a prestigious royal endorsement when King Charles III (then the Prince of Wales) visited the site to back the family's visionary fashion and textile operations.
Meeting with the founders’ family, he toured the mill to witness firsthand the industrial scale and innovation that had revitalized the region’s textile industry. During the visit, he observed the 24/7 manufacturing cycle and the technical artistry of the "frost wash" denim treatments that were then revolutionizing the UK market. This visit underscored the mill's role as a thriving center of British craftsmanship and modern industrial precision, further embedding excellence into the brand's DNA.
IV. The Equestrian Intersection: Grit Meets Grace
Cavvalure was born when this industrial "grit" met the refined "grace" of the British saddle.
Parallel to the family’s manufacturing history is a deep respect for the equestrian discipline. Horse riding is a sport of millimeters—it requires posture, precision, and presence. It demands apparel that performs under the grueling conditions of the yard while maintaining the structured elegance of high fashion.
We realised that the same principles used to build the world’s most durable denim could be refined to create the world’s most sophisticated equestrian wear.
Our Base Layers utilise the breathability heritage of the Lancashire cotton masters.
Our Leggings feature the architectural silhouettes and technical recovery perfected during the 1980s denim revolution.

V. The House Today: Fabric, Field, and Family
Cavvalure is the evolution of a 230-year journey. We do not imitate heritage; we are the current custodians of it. From the 1791 foundations of John Horrocks to the 1988 vision of the family patriach, we remain a fashion house dedicated to the woman who demands excellence in every stride.
Today, every Cavvalure piece is a tribute to the mills of the North and the fields of the British countryside. It is a promise that your apparel has been built with the integrity of a lineage that has clothed the world for over two centuries.
